What’s All the Excitement Surrounding the Dr. Oz Diet?

Dr. Who?

There’s a flurry of excitement in the weight loss industry – again. I kept hearing the name Dr. Oz. I kept thinking of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz every time I heard the name. One day I was watching Oprah and I heard the name again – this time, it was attached to a diet. It was called the Dr. Oz diet.

So that’s what all the hoopla was about! I thought to myself, “Yet another diet guru here to share some ground breaking, liberating weight loss miracle with us.” So I did some research. Who is Dr. Oz and what is the Dr. Oz diet?

Dr. Oz is a Harvard graduate who received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a professor and vice chairman of surgery at Columbia University. Okay, kudos for him so far. But what about his diet?

Watch Your Health, Not Your Waistline

What is radical about the Dr. Oz diet is that the focus is on overall health and disease prevention – not weight loss. But inherent in its focus on disease prevention is the key to weight loss. Dr. Oz believes that your waist line is a crucial indication of risky medical conditions such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes. This is definitely a radical concept. The diet focuses on nutrition, fitness, and emotional health.

No Magic Pills Here

If you’re looking for fast results or some magic diet pill, you won’t find it here. Nor will you lose a ridiculous amount of weight in 2 days like the Hollywood 48 hour Miracle Diet proclaims. You will, however, be able to get into your skinny jeans if you learn how to eat healthy on a consistent basis with this food plan. You see, Dr. Oz diet is radical because it is a lifestyle change – not a quick fix. His diet is about providing the individual with important information on how your body metabolizes food so that you can make better, healthier choices. In the process, you lose weight.

Never Go on a Diet Again

The Dr. Oz diet has some very sound ideas that are easy to implement. Here are some of the principles behind the diet that are very easy to follow:

• Do 30 minutes of aerobic daily
• Pick colorful vegetables as they are high in antioxidants
• Get rid of the potato chips and ice cream from your pantry and refrigerator
• On a scale of 1-10 stop eating when you feel you are at a 6
• Eat nine handfuls of fruits and vegetables every day
• Eat healthy fats like olive oil and avocados
• Drink 8-12 glasses of water a day
• Find a buddy to help you stay motivated, call each other daily
The Best of Both Worlds

The Dr. Oz diet is a very reasonable, easy, convenient “diet” to follow. The sound principles for mind and body distinguish it from the fad diets out there. Since the focus is on overall health and not weight loss, you’ll less likely be obsessed with your weight and give up on “dieting” if you’re primary purpose is to become healthy. Don’t worry, in the end, you will lose all the weight you need on the Dr. Oz diet. So in the end, you get the best of both worlds.
