Is There Such Thing as a Safe Diet Pill That Works?

The diet industry has made $61 billion dollars this year simply because people are desperate to find a diet pill that works. Exploitation is the diet industry’s job. They are in the business to make money and what better way to make money than off the vulnerability of overweight people desperate to find a quick fix for their obesity dilemma?

Instant Gratification

There are plenty of weight loss programs on the internet like Jenny Craig, South Beach Diet, Weight Watchers and The Zone Diet. But that’s not where consumers are spending their money.

The bulk of money the diet industry makes every year comes from people looking for a diet pill that works. There are so many diet pills out there. Because we are a society that demands instant gratification, including weight loss, the diet industry has struck pay dirt. So how do you go about finding a diet pill that works?

Also, how do you even know if the diet pill is working or if it is just from your own efforts? First, you need to understand the ingredients that go into a diet pill that make it “effective.”

The Making of Diet Pills

What are the active ingredients in diet pills? Ephedrine was the main ingredient in many of the top selling diet pills on the market before it was banned. Ephedrine increased heart rate – along with heart attacks and strokes. A lot of dieters assumed that because their heart rate increased, that meant their metabolism increased. This is totally incorrect. The key to weight loss is not heart rate. A high metabolism is the sole requirement to losing weight.

Aftermath of Ephedrine

After millions of dollars worth of lawsuits, Ephedrine was taken off the market and banned permanently. So how did the diet industry start marketing to dieters looking for a diet pill that works?

They started using buzz words on their diet pill bottles like “high energy” and “ephedrine-free” so that dieters would not be frightened by the deaths of thousands of dieters who had used ephedrine in the past. So what was this “secret” ingredient they put in these new diet pills that made dieters believe they had found a diet pill that works? They added caffeine.

Testimonials Galore

Sometimes I wonder if people are really that dumb. After listing caffeine as the main ingredient on diet pill bottles, dieters still believed that there was some magic ingredient in these diet pills that “made them workout harder.” These testimonials went on and on about how the new ingredient gave them more energy than the ephedrine based diet pills and how as a result, they got “ripped.”

Of course they had more energy. Caffeine can wire a dead horse if given enough of the stuff! If you have more nervous energy, you will be able to workout for longer periods of time. Don’t tell dieters that. You might burst their bubble. If only they knew they could save their $30 bucks and just by a cup of Joe to get their energy! Meanwhile the diet industry gets richer and the dieters get poorer, all in an effort to find a diet pill that works!
